The Hampton Roads Agricultural Research and Extension Center provides leadership for the vitality and sustainability of the environmental horticulture industries (nursery, landscape, greenhouse, and turf) of Virginia through research, extension, graduate instruction and continuing education. Research projects include cultural production, pest management, plant selection and improvement, and environmental stewardship applicable to commercial horticulture and related service industries. Research in turfgrass, greenhouse crops, vegetable and annual flower evaluations, and alternative crops for niche markets are also conducted. Research results are presented to members of the green industry at numerous conferences, commodity group meetings, and training sessions as well as our annual field day. For homeowners we have a community gardening festival where relevant research-based information is disseminated to attendees. |
